New Orleans Saints Sign Hunter Dekkers to Minicamp Roster

The New Orleans Saints are taking another look at quarterback Hunter Dekkers, signing him to their minicamp roster. Dekkers, 24, previously played for the Saints' practice squad last season after attending their rookie minicamp. He spent time with the Houston Gamblers in the spring football league, playing in half of their games despite a shoulder injury. Dekkers completed 61.6% of his passes for 749 passing yards and three touchdowns, adding 74 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. The Saints are set at quarterback with Tyler Shough projected as the starter and Spencer Rattler and Zach Wilson as backups. Dekkers' experience with the Saints and his recent performance make him a promising candidate for a spot on the 90-man roster. If he impresses at minicamp, he could earn an invite to training camp later in the summer. Dekkers' collegiate career was marked by highs and lows, including a stint at Iowa State and a transfer to Iowa Western Community College after a gambling scandal. He threw for over 3,000 yards in 2022 and earned NFL looks for his performance. The Saints are evaluating Dekkers as a low-risk option to add depth to their quarterback position. With his experience and recent performance, Dekkers is a strong candidate to make an impact with the Saints.
